Well, it hasn’t been mine for a while, but it was mine for 7 years and 90k miles before I sold it to a friend 5 years ago (before all the yellow). What a great little car... First car I ever took to the track, started my backroadtrip treks to NW Arkansas in this car, lots of memories with my wife & our dogs before kids, and I just flogged it every time I drove it. I really did love it; would have kept it if Mrs. addiction would’ve been okay with me pairing it with a little 2-seat sports car. Slow car fast is a real thing!

My friend’s not hurt, but the airbag did deploy, unfortunately. Not sure exactly what happened, but guessing he was at fault since he didn’t say the other driver was. Looks like a panic braking situation on a curve on the highway in the wet. I was encouraging him to buy it back as salvage and I’d help him find a new hood and front clip, but the damn airbag... So, he’s in the market again, probably for a similar car (small manual wagon). He found an ‘08 Impreza for sale, and I sent him listings for an ‘11 Mazda 3s hatch and a ‘13 Fit. I’m guessing he’s looking to spend less than 10 grand. What else should he be looking at (or avoiding at all cost)? Thanks in advance for the input.

Damn, sorry for your car.
And I really feel bad for finding that yellow stripe continuity hilarious

looks like it was there for a while, the road crew painted a yellow stripe on it while doing the road.

Well then insurance would cover it and I could get something new you know? It isn’t a constant feeling. I think it is just because I have to DD it and that gets really boring you know?

Oh, I get it. Just hoping you have a car soon where you’d never have this feeling, regardless of how long you’ve owned it.

Insurance wouldn’t give you any more than you’d get if you sold it.

I know, but that is still pretty high since Goats are sought after.

Yeah, someday that is a feeling I will have.

I guess my point is, if you’re having those feelings, maybe it’s time to sell it, but you may be right that you’ve just normalized to it because you drive it every day.

At this point, with the miles, rock chips and worn seats, my car is worth much more to me in daily enjoyment than it would be worth in dollars to anyone who would buy it from me, so it’s hard for me to even consider selling it. I’m hoping it will last me long enough that I have both the money to get a new car without selling it and the space to park it outside of the elements (planning to build a shop before too long).

No I really want to keep my car. Just all the little issues I don’t have the time or space to fix them right now. Mostly space because I will not work on my car in the middle of my apartment structure’s parking lot. But moving home will give me a driveway and such to do on weekends.

Then I didn’t have the money to have my work work on it, but I was going to break down and just have them do it, but of course the only guy I would trust to work on it just quit for another shop. I would send it there, but he is on vacation for 3 weeks before he starts his new job.

So I am trying to see if I can borrow my grandfather’s lift this weekend to work on my car. So we will see.

Good luck!

When I get bummed about my car’s unwanted interior noises, I just roll the windows down, turn the music up a bit, and wind her out. =)

Bummer. Our ‘04 mazda3 hatch is still in the family, they’re good cars.

Unless awd is justifiable as being worth the hit in efficiency, I’d avoid the Impreza, they’re pretty dull otherwise.

I’d probably go for a late second gen Mazda3 if I were looking for another car like that. Likely a ‘11(?) - ‘13, with a skyactive engine, 2.5l preferably which I think got a 6-speed for the manual.

He actually drove an ‘11 manual with the 2.5 today and really liked it. Hope they can come to an agreement on price.
